Design and Mixed Media.

a. Design your own toy on paper and show side and top views with special details labelled.
b. Create a collage (using different textured and printed papers), frotage (creating textured rubbings) or montage (using pictures from magazines or photographs) to tell a story or make a poster.
c. Use natural or man-made objects, e.g. leaves, nuts, metal pieces or small gadgets and ink pad or paint to create a relief print.

Art Appreciation.

a. Choose two paintings by an artist or two different paintings by two different artists and talk about why you like them or talk about the story you see in the paintings.
b. Visit an art gallery and point out the art works you like and explain why you like them.
c. Collect pictures and make a six-page scrapbook using the pictures of objects you think might suit your house. Use some of the themes such as furniture, curtains and fabrics, electrical gadgets, crockery or china and wall decorations.

Level 2

Complete one part from each section (identify which part in each case):

Drawing and Painting.

a. Produce two free hand sketches and shade or paint these in front of your examiner. You may choose two different subjects. Mount the sketches on card. b. Draw your own portrait or a member of your family. Show the light and dark areas by shading. Mount the finished drawing. c. Paint a garden scene or landscape view and mount or frame your picture.
d. Create your own cartoon character in six different action poses or comic situations, with different backgrounds, that will help tell a story. For copyright reasons, the cartoon character cannot be from another artist's work.

Design and Mixed Media.

a. Design futuristic transport craft that can travel in space, under or above water or land using present day technologies in a new and different way. Label the important features.
b. Design and make three different cards for people or occasions using mixed media such as stamping, printing, collage (using different textured and printed papers), frotage (creating textured rubbings) or montage (using pictures from magazines or photographs).
c. Design and plan a new interior for your bedroom or another room in your house. Draw the side and top views on a design brief sheet and label the furniture. Cut out colours from a pain colour chart and glue your colour choices to the design brief sheet. If possible, glue small samples of fabrics for curtains or furnishings and carpet or floor coverings to the design brief sheet.
d. Design a new city for a new location (could be underground, underwater, on the surface, in the air or in space). Label the different buildings for private or community use and what they should be made from. Add a landscape with some indication of vegetation and areas of open space usage.

Art Appreciation.

a. Choose three paintings by an artist or three different paintings by three different artists and write about the theme or story, the colours, the type of paint used and how you feel about each painting.
b. Visit an art gallery. Choose one of your favourite pictures, make a sketch of it and explain why you like the picture.
c. Find out information about a favourite artist, designer or architect and, in your own words, write how the artist, designer or architect made the works and why.
